Real-time distributed control systems
"In the industrial automation context, a real-time distributed control system is typically implemented by a set of computational devices (sensors, actuators,
controllers, etc.) that run one or several tasks, which communicate data across a field level communication network (fieldbus). The successful design and implementation of real-time distributed control application requires an appropriate integration of several
disciplines including control systems, real-time systems and communication systems. They are used to control industrial processes such as electric power generation, oil and gas refineries, water and wastewater treatment, and chemical, food, and automotive production.
The above paragraph is the basis for the work undertaken in my research stay in the Automatic Control Department of the Technical University of Catalonia. The work is combined with industrial projects involving automation systems, in-vehicle networking (fieldbus systems such as CAN), complex distributed embedded systems for large cientific applications, etc.
The following screenshot shows the user interface of Eclipse-based IDE for ERIKA (a free-of-charge, open source RTOS for automotive systems) under Ubuntu GNU/Linux operating system.
