Mechatronics
"Modern machine-tools are very complex mechatronical systems. The capability and efficiency of a machine-tool, e.g., a milling machine (see below image) are mainly determined by its kinematics, structural dynamics, computer numerical control (CNC) system and the machining process. To ensure that the first physical prototype of the machine-tool meets the requirements in the best possible way, it is essential that every design step is evaluated with simulations of the virtual prototype. An essential step in achieving the Virtual Manufacturing is the construction of these virtual prototypes that accurately represent the dynamics of machine-tools and manufacturing processes (see the paper "Virtual machine tool" by Yusuf Altintas (1954) et al. that I provided a link to).
The above paragraph could belong to the introductory chapter on virtual machine-tool and is the basis for the work undertaken in the Dynamics and Control Department of Ideko-IK4. Ideko-IK4 is a R&D Center, specialised in machine-tools, and forms part of the DANOBAT Group and the Mondragon Corporation."
